MYTH BUSTERS RELATED TO FOOD DURING COVID
This article talks about several myths related to food during the COVID-19.
- Myth – Drinking water helps to flush out the coronavirus, therefore, protect against COVID-19.
- Fact – There is no evidence regarding drinking lots of water in helping to flush out the coronavirus but drinking adequate amounts of water are recommended for good health, to prevent dehydration and build your immune system.
- Myth – Eating ice cream and frozen food items spread the coronavirus.
- Fact – There is no evidence regarding the eating of ice creams and frozen food items in the spread of coronavirus.
- Myth – Eating mango helps to cure coronavirus as the acid present in the fruit can kill it.
- Fact – There is no evidence to prove this, but WHO recommends including an adequate amount of vegetables and fruits in your diet as they help to build your immune system.
- Myth – Eating chicken spreads coronavirus.
- Fact – Eating well cooked and hygienically prepared chicken does not cause the spread of coronavirus.
- Myth – Durian protects from COVID-19.
- Fact – There is no scientific evidence to prove that consumption of durian helps to protect from COVID-19, but WHO recommends including an adequate amount of vegetables and fruits in your diet as they help to build your immune system.
- Myth – Eating curry or rasam helps to protect from COVID-19
- Fact – There is no evidence regarding the consumption of curry or rasam in protecting from COVID-19.
Follow these tips to protect yourself from COVID-19 :
- Frequently wash your hands with water and soap or use an alcohol-based hand rub/sanitiser.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a mask and if you cough or sneeze use your bent elbow or a tissue. Dispose of the tissue safely.
- Keep at least a minimum distance of 1 metre from someone who is coughing or sneezing.
