What is the best time to drink milk?

Milk is a complete food loaded with nutrients like vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B12, magnesium and potassium. It is a very nutritious beverage and one of the best vegetarian protein sources. Milk is known as a complete food because it consists of carbs, protein, fat and various vitamins and minerals.

According to Ayurveda milk has special digestive and nutritional properties therefore how to drink it plays an important role to make the most of its health benefits.

Example: Milkshake consumption should be avoided as per Ayurveda because sour fruits, melons, mango, bananas should not be blended with yoghurt and milk because if a banana is blended with milk it can diminish gastric fire (Agni) and also change the intestinal flora that can result in toxins and cause cold, congestion, cough, hives, rash, allergies, etc.

As per Ayurveda if you want to reap maximum health benefits out of milk then there is a specific time to consume it i.e.:

If you are consuming milk to build a strong body then it should be consumed in the morning time if not then it is best advised to consume it during night time. To maximise its benefits one can consume milk with other ingredients like ashwagandha that helps to boost memory and induce better sleep.

Milk is one of the best foods as per Ayurveda and everyone should consume it on a regular basis as consuming it at no specific time cannot harm you much but the best time to consume milk is from evening till bedtime.

If you consume milk in the morning it becomes very heavy to digest and makes you lethargic, some people even face acidity issues. Also, avoid consuming salty foods with milk as it leads to heaviness and digestion issues.

Having milk during the night time promotes Ojas that is the state of proper digestion as per Ayurveda. It also helps to calm you down before bed and promotes sound sleep. Calcium in the milk is also easily absorbed during the night time because of low activity levels. Because of its sedative and digestive properties, the best time to drink milk is during the night before bed as per Ayurveda.
